Ilka Bruse In Paradise

Ilka Bruse took the inspiration serious to look after "flora and fauna" as inspiration for her jewellery. They whirr in an abstract way over forms and details composed to brooches and pendants - at the same time decorative and poetic collage.

Ilka Bruse has refined her seemingly improvised and playful style with impressive perfection. Gold, silver, painted papier-mache, added to that the odd little pearl, coral - a small treasure. In years gone by this seemed a childish pleasure in experimentation but has now evolved into a story with a punch-line - if you allow a piece of jewellery to tell a story. Would Ilke Bruse in another life have become an illustrator?

The poetic feel of a crochet chain, in whose stitches here and there a minute precious stone, piece of coral or other such treasure seem to have been caught. The pendant, always a little askew, always a little associated in shape - as well as the the shape of the earrings. All her pieces of jewellery exude spontaneity and wonderful ideas and celebrate most of all their very own beauty and the beauty of their subjects. Most obvious that this reflects also onto the person wearing them!

Ilka Bruse finished her apprentanceship in goldsmithing and completed her studies in metal design with a diploma at the university of applied sience in Hildesheim. Since 1993 she is running her own studio, exhibiting internationaly with great success.
